The video
subsystem shows a 3D visualization of the interaction
between the hand of the operator, represented by an avatar
(the virtual representation of a user) placed in a virtual
environment, and the digital model of a sculpture. The MPF
finds an easy application since, despite its sophisticated
and complex architecture, it consists in a system that can
be placed in a non-specifically structured environment. In
fact, the MPF is designed for museum visits where visitors
are surrounded by statues that have been digitalized, so that
they are enabled to interact with the real statues, even if
through their 3D digital copies.
The
MPF can be realized with two installations:
an installation with a video subsystem made up of one or more
panels which are placed in front of the user, thus allowing
a high degree of realism;
an installation
in a CAVE (CAve Virtual Environment) which offers the user
the highest level of realism. The CAVE space (dimesions Mt
3x3x3 or 3x3x6) consists in a room whose walls, including
the ceiling and the floor, are made up of screens where high
resolution 3D images are projected and back-projected together
with the sound effects which are recreated at the same time.
